Notes From Dave:

IN EARLY JULY Marie & I went to North Carolina for training. I received my Level 5 Advanced White Water ACA Instructor Certification. This is the highest ACA level certification available. It was FUN! WE ALSO got a chance to paddle for pleasure. Marie went down the Ocoee River for the first time & I got to catch up with paddling friends from many years ago. The level of paddlers & instructors has improved over the years since I first started kayaking. CLICK HERE for photos from the trip! EVEN MORE EXCITING NEWS, Marie will be leaving for Canada & then Europe for a month of paddling with Canada’s National Under 21 Women’s Team. The team will compete in Milan, Italy at the Kayak Polo World Championships. This is an opportunity for the entire team to train with European coaches & compete in European tournaments. This will be a learning experience for everyone; we will keep you posted on their progress. JACKSON KAYAK will be introducing several new models in the coming months. We are looking forward to seeing what will be offered & letting you test paddle the newest kayaks in class & FNF. Jackson Kayak will introduce these models at the Outdoor Retailer’s Show; this is the “show” for introducing new model kayaks & other outdoor gear to the world. KAYAK INSTRUCTION is working with TPWD (Texas Parks & Wildlife Department) & ROWLETT PARKS & RECREATION to establish a Texas Water Trail at Paddle Point Park on Lake Ray Hubbard. More news on this project coming soon! THE SCOUTING PROGRAMS are in full swing at the indoor pool at the Colony Aquatic Park. These programs offer many opportunities to introduce kayaking to boy & girl scouts! Contact us for more details. FRIDAY NIGHT FLIPS (FNF) will start in October for the 2010-2011 paddle season; this is a great way to keep paddling even in cooler weather. KAYAK INSTRUCTION, INC. has set up a non-profit organization called KAYAK INSTRUCTION FOUNDATION, INC. as a 501c3 tax exempt organization. The purpose of the foundation is for kids, through kayaking programs, develop leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, character, integrity & responsibility. We can now qualify for grants & accept donations to fund these kayaking programs in the North Central Texas area. CHECK THE FLOWS! Keep posted on the latest news & photos. ACA ASSESSMENT PROGRAM SUCCESS: Steve Walls is conducting ACA River & Coastal Assessment Sessions. The Texas Parks & Wildlife Kayak Guide License requires a Coastal Assessment be completed. We are very excited to be offering these assessments. CLICK HERE for details. CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN for the standing waves at Moore Park, located in downtown Dallas. Project completion is set for year end 2010. Moore Park will have two waves forming a park & play spot of white water for kayaks & canoes. This is great news for the paddle community! KAYAK COLLEGE: Kayak College is a comprehensive program that takes a beginner paddler from the first days of kayaking to advanced rough water and rolling competency. Experienced kayakers will begin at appropriate level after assessment with a certified instructor. Through a course of 5 classes and 20 available coaching sessions, students receive certified instruction and feedback to achieve specific goals. For those wanting to become a confident and competent kayaker, this program will take you there. KAYAK RENTALS: We have kayak rentals for students and non-students. This is a great way to try different kayaks and enjoy picking your own paddling location without owning a kayak (yet). RENTAL RATES INCLUDE PFD, HELMET, PADDLE & SKIRT as well as use of the kayak. Information is now posted on the KAYAK RENTAL PAGE. KAYAK POLO NEWS:

KAYAK POLO OPENINGS ~ There are still spots available on the TEXAS TORNADOS; practice is at the Colony Aquatic Park every Saturday night 7:30pm. If you are under 21, this is an excellent opportunity for fun, to develop leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-esteem and responsibility.
