MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Sunday, June 22, from 8:00 -11:00am join us at the Surf & Swim for a morning paddle. Fee of $25.00 covers kayak, helmet, pfd, paddle and pool fee. If you bring own gear the fee is reduced to $10.00. This is a great way to start the day all paddlers are welcome. This is NOT A CLASS but an OPEN PADDLE OPPORTUNITY. OUR BOY & GIRL SCOUTS PROGRAMS recreational programs are continuing on Lake Ray Hubbard & Grapevine. Working with these groups is fun, they are great students. If we can register enough students in an area we will provide the equipment, instructor and high quality instruction “on the road”. This would be great for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups, etc. that do not have access to kayak classes in their hometown. PARKS AND RECREATION PROGRAMSfor the GARLAND, PLANO, ROWLETT, DENTON, GRAPEVINE, FARMERS BRANCH PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENTS AS WELL AS FORT WORTH COMMUNITY SERVICES have scheduled kayaking classes. So far they are a great success! The Rockwall class had over 30 students and had to be split into two classes. The classes allow children and entire families to try this growing water sport with certified instructors and all equipment provided. Contact the above agencies and find the class that best fits your schedule. UPCOMING OCTOBER 18 & 19 Kayak Instruction is sponsoring a WILDERNESS FIRST AID PROGRAM with Wilderness Medical Institute (WMI), which is part of the National Outdoor Leadership School. Students aged 13 – 16 years must have an adult in the class with them. We are happy to sponsor this class along with Sun & Ski, The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, Mad Duck, Parks & Recreation Departments of Garland, Grapevine, Plano, Rowlett, Rockwall & The Colony. Graduates will receive certification from WMI; this is a professional certification that various national and state agencies recognize. This program is great for scouting groups, churches or any group that does outdoor activities. At least one member, or more, of any group should have this certification. MAY 10, 2008 (SATURDAY) KAYAK RIVER SAFETY AND RESCUE PROGRAM at Denton Collins Lazy River. Participants will have an opportunity to gain additional rescue and safety skills. The format includes games, instruction on moving water and lots of fun boat action. Parents and Scouts ten and older are urged to register quickly to be included. Clear clean water with reliable flows during drought and flood conditions makes this an ideal location to experience five-foot swells, surf stationary waves and surf into shore on breaking waves. Students of all ages are able welcome; these programs are the ideal progression from flatwater to whitewater. We can schedule your class any day of the week from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. These classes will help you understand just how easy and fun kayaking can be. Keep an eye on this newsletter and on our schedule of classes for a day and time that works for you. KAYAK RENTALS:

KAYAK RENTALS: We have kayak rentals for students and non-students. This is a great way to try different kayaks and enjoy picking your own paddling location without owning a kayak (yet). RENTAL RATES INCLUDE PFD, HELMET, PADDLE & SKIRT as well as use of the kayak. Information is now posted on the KAYAK RENTAL PAGE. THE HERO LINE has been re-designed for 2008… We are excited about the new changes… check out the new information ….CLICK HERE. QUESTION & ANSWER CORNER:

Q & A with Kayak Instruction…. Q: I AM WANTING to have a special girl’s night out ~ how are the private sessions done? A: OUR PRIVATE SESSIONS are perfect for groups of friends to try kayaking! We will supply the boats, paddles and instructor(s) to make this a great experience. Just let us know how many will be coming so we have the boats and other gear ready to go. WE WILL USE a heated indoor pool for your session. Tell everyone to dress comfortable in a swim suit, shorts, etc. just so it can get wet. We will take you through the steps, get you in a kayak and paddling very quickly. THE TIME WILL BE RESERVED for just your group, no other students will be in the session. This makes for a very relaxed time with friends. AFTER YOUR SESSION we take care of putting up the gear and your group is free to continue with other events.
